Who am I? Well, not Jean Valjean or 24601 for that matter.
I’m a living historian (Fancy word for reenactor. Like sanitation engineer for a garbage man.), a history and secondary education major, a fifer, and a beginning sewer. I’ve been involved in the hobby for 7 years now. I started as a freshman in high school and fell in love with it ever since.
Though as of late, it’s been a love-hate relationship so this is a place for my rantings and thoughts on it all.
My passion in the hobby is music. As a fifer, I’m pretty fond of the martial stuff. I like playing researched songs from original fife manuscripts that were used during the Revolution. I’m also fond of what I refer to as “pretty” music or the 18th century equivalent of pop tunes. Operas, classical music, and tavern tunes are another interest of mine and I’ve compiled a large stack of sheet music that’s tossed about my room.
I’ve also ventured into the world of sewing as of late. After joining a new unit (known around the hobby as the “Coat of the Month Club”) I had the option of paying thousands of dollars to get the uniforms sewn or suck it up and do it myself. I chose the latter of the two. I like to whine and bitch all through the project but once it’s finished, I’m usually content.
So, get ready for some comedy (mostly at my expense), some tears (mostly mine), some rants, and some general opinions I feel the need to express.
The views and opinions expressed in this blog do not necessarily represent the the views and opinions of the units or umbrella organizations I belong to and solely express the sentiments of myself.
